Black Pepper Beef and Cabbage Stir-Fry: A Quick and Flavorful Weeknight Dinner

This recipe is perfect for a busy weeknight or a casual weekend gathering. The bold black pepper flavor adds a unique kick, and the tender beef and crunchy cabbage provide a delightful textural contrast. Plus, you can easily adjust the spice level to your liking.

INGREDIENTS

What you'll need:

1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 onion, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 head of cabbage, thinly sliced
1/2 cup beef broth
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro, for garnish

DIRECTIONS

Let’s get cooking!

Preparing the Beef

1. In a medium bowl, combine the sliced beef with the cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Toss to coat. Set aside.

Stir-frying the Beef and Veggies

2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook until browned on all sides, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.

3. Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 2-3 minutes.

4. Add the cabbage to the skillet and cook, stirring frequently, until it starts to wilt, about 3-4 minutes.

5. Push the cabbage to the sides of the skillet, creating a space in the center. Add the beef broth, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using) to the center of the skillet. Bring the mixture to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.

Finishing Touches

6. Stir in the beef and cook until heated through, about 1-2 minutes.

7. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve immediately over rice or noodles.

Tips:

For a spicier dish, add more red pepper flakes. If you prefer a milder flavor, omit the red pepper flakes altogether.

You can use any type of beef for this recipe, but sirloin is a good choice for its tenderness and flavor.

If you don't have beef broth, you can substitute with chicken broth or water.

For a vegetarian version, use firm tofu instead of beef.

Serve the Black Pepper Beef and Cabbage Stir-Fry with steamed rice, noodles, or a side of your favorite vegetables.

Enjoy!
